Vivenne Yongthavorn Finds Growth and Community at UMaine
For Vivienne Yongthavorn, the Roger D. Cooper Scholarship has made it possible to focus on her studies and involvement at the University of Maine without the stress of financial uncertainty. The support she received opened the door to new leadership opportunities, including serving as Treasurer for the International Student Association – a role that has strengthened her leadership skills and connected her with students from around the world.
As an international student, Vivienne shared that the scholarship has allowed her to continue her education far from home. “My family is not in a position to provide additional financial support,” she said. “So this scholarship truly made it possible for me to stay in school.” With that burden lifted, she has been able to grow both personally and academically, embracing every opportunity UMaine offers.
Vivienne’s studies in business and economics have inspired her to think about how she can make a positive impact beyond the classroom. After graduation, she plans to gain professional experience and eventually start her own business, using what she has learned to help strengthen her home country’s economy.
She credits UMaine’s welcoming environment for helping her feel at home. “Everyone, from professors to classmates, has been so open and supportive,” Vivienne said. “I especially appreciated how willing people are to learn about my culture; it makes me feel truly valued and included.”
When reflecting on the impact of donor support, Vivienne expressed her deep gratitude. “The Roger D. Cooper Scholarship has been more than just financial aid,” she said. “It has been an opportunity to learn, lead, and lay the foundation for a future dedicated to making a difference.”
