Senior Director of Southern Maine Operations

The University of Maine Foundation seeks a motivated professional to manage our fundraising program at our Southern Maine Office in Falmouth located just north of Portland Maine’s largest metro area and economic hub.

A bachelor’s degree, 5-7 years of relevant fundraising/sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  A master’s degree is preferred.

Job Description

Regular Full-Time

Supervisor

The Senior Director of Southern Maine Operations will report directly to the President/CEO of the University of Maine Foundation.

Summary

The Senior Director of Southern Maine Operations manages the Southern Maine office and its philanthropy program developing relationships on behalf of the University of Maine Foundation for the benefit of the University of Maine, with alumni and friends leading to principal and planned gifts.

Essential Functions

  1. Works closely with the President/CEO to grow and develop the Southern Maine office and plans and executes a strategy for increasing the donor base in Southern Maine and New England.
  2. Develops, monitors and executes strategic fundraising plans and leads a team of fundraising professionals.
  3. Manages a portfolio of 125 – 150 principal prospects.
  4. Completes 100 to 120 face-to-face visits annually, documenting activities, strategies, results and next steps in Advance.
  5. Meets or exceeds annual dollar goal.
  6. Provides consistent, donor-centered cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  7. Works closely with university and foundation staffs to ensure full integration, engagement and coordination with all fundraising activities in support of university and foundation initiatives.
  8. Keeps abreast of private support needs and opportunities across the university generally, and specifically as appropriate.
  9. Remains active in the greater Portland area and attends community functions and events representing the Foundation to increase awareness and visibility of the Foundation and the University of Maine.
  10. Deepens expertise by attending appropriate professional development opportunities through organizations such as CASE, AFP or other networks in areas of responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Senior Director of Southern Maine Operations will directly supervise a team of four full-time employees; three philanthropy officers, and an Administrative Specialist.

Work Schedule, Location and Environment

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Due to the nature of the position work beyond regular hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be necessary to meet the requirements of the position.

This position will be located at the Foundation’s Falmouth, Maine office.

This position requires regular attendance at community and athletic events as a university representative and host.

There is significant pressure for success based on fundraising goals and expectations.

Travel Requirements

This position requires extensive local and domestic overnight travel.  The employee is required to hold a valid driver’s license and either a U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree, 5-7 years of relevant fundraising/sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated success in soliciting gifts or closing sales of $100,000 and above.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Leadership and supervisory experience.
  3. Specialized knowledge related to major gifts fundraising and planned giving.

  2. Processes pledges and pledge payments, and transmits pledge reminders.
  3. Processes matching gift claims.

  6. Provides excellent customer service.
  7. Performs special projects as needed.
