Katie Dube – Class of 2020

Katie Dube began her college career at the University of Maine as a way to help students in Maine, especially students in middle school. Dube grew up in Arundel, Maine, and is the first person in her immediate family to attend UMaine. In 2019, her younger brother, Jonathan, started his academic career here as well.

In addition to her major of study in secondary education, Dube is also pursuing a theater minor. Her concentration in secondary education is English. “Teaching is not just the distribution of knowledge, but rather the magic that occurs when a school community comes together to achieve academic success,” says Dube, who will strive to be a voice of understanding for her future students.

“I love UMaine so much,” says Dube, “What I truly love about it is that I have had the opportunity to explore all of my passions, and make them work for me.” In her senior year, Dube received the Edward “Tim” McManus ’54 & Barbara Fitzgerald McManus Scholarship. “I have such a love for this university and I am so thankful for this scholarship in helping me during this final semester at UMaine,” says Dube.

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dube finished out her University of Maine studies through online student teaching. Her plans have had to change a bit, but she is still hoping to find a teaching job in Southern Maine.
