Liv Neuhauser Reflects on the Impact of the Evans Award

For Liv Neuhauser, receiving the Laurence Evans and Elizabeth Taylor Evans Award was both an honor and a source of lasting motivation. “Receiving the Laurence Evans and Elizabeth Taylor Evans Award, which is given annually to the graduating History senior with the highest academic record, not only provided meaningful financial support but also instilled in me the necessary academic confidence that I will carry into the next stage of my education,” Liv said. “It helped me feel as though all the hard work I put in during my undergraduate years had amounted to something tangible as well as personal.”

A 2025 graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in History and Secondary Education, Liv continues to draw inspiration from this recognition as she pursues her law degree. “As a current law student, I will draw on the motivation that scholarship gave me,” she said. “Law school can often feel overwhelming, and it is common for new students to wonder, ‘Do I really belong here?’ Yet this scholarship, beyond its financial significance, reinforced my confidence and serves as a  reminder of an achievement that affirms I do deserve to be here.”

Reflecting on her time at UMaine, Liv shared that she valued the sense of community that made a large university feel personal. “When I was a student, I loved the community of UMaine,” she said. “It was a big school, but still felt small.”

To current or future donors, Liv expressed deep gratitude. “Your generosity extends far beyond financial support,” she said. “Scholarships like the one I received give students an opportunity to lose a bit of a financial burden and gain a sense of accomplishment and confidence.”
