Emily Maniscalco Builds Confidence and Connection Through the Worrick Scholarship
For Emily Maniscalco, the Robert C. and Roberta S. Worrick Scholarship has made a life-changing difference in her ability to pursue higher education as a nontraditional student. “This scholarship has allowed me to concentrate on my studies instead of worrying about the financial cost of going to school,” Emily said. “It also allows me to refocus my finances, shifting from spending primarily on school expenses to saving toward future goals of helping provide for my family.”
Beyond easing financial pressure, the scholarship has reaffirmed Emily’s sense of purpose and belonging at the University of Maine. “It has made me feel supported and worthwhile in pursuing higher education as a nontraditional student, which has been motivating throughout my time at UMaine,” she said.
After graduation, Emily plans to become a Physical Education teacher in an elementary school, where she hopes to create a fun and supportive environment that helps children develop confidence, teamwork skills, and a lifelong love of physical activity. “UMaine has allowed us to be a part of important scientific work and helped us cultivate so many skills to succeed and be curious in our fields after we leave,” she said.
Reflecting on her UMaine experience, Emily shared how much she values the connections she has made. “What I love most about being a UMaine student is the opportunity to meet new people and build connections, as well as the chance to gain hands-on experience in my field right from the start,” she said. “It has made me feel more confident and excited about my future career path.”
To donors, Emily offers heartfelt gratitude. “Your support makes a life-changing difference for students,” she said. “Scholarships not only ease the financial burden of college but also allow students like me to focus more on academics and feel supported in working toward future goals. They also help recognize a student’s hard work and provide the push to continue pursuing higher education, even when challenges arise.”
