All Maine Women Centennial Leadership Fund

As we gear up to celebrate 100 remarkable years of the All Maine Women Honor Society, we’re honoring the past while setting our sights on the future. Our founders envisioned an organization to honor and empower women distinguished in leadership, scholarship, and service. Today, we continue their noble legacy with renewed dedication through the establishment of the All Maine Women Centennial Leadership Fund.

This isn’t just any fund—it’s a lifeline for the next generation of leaders. We aim to raise a minimum of $500,000 to ensure that every All Maine Woman has access to the Maine National Education for Women (NEW) Leadership Institute at the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center. Through this program, young women will refine their leadership skills, amplify their voices, and extend their influence long after their time at UMaine.

But we can’t achieve this vision alone. Your support for the All Maine Women Centennial Leadership Fund is an investment in not only a fund but also in the future of female leadership. Your contribution will empower young women to shatter glass ceilings, overcome barriers, and forge new paths for generations to come.

Here’s to the next 100 years of empowering women, making history, and changing the world—one All Maine Woman at a time.

As of fall 2025, more than $10,000 has been raised toward the $500,000 goal for the All Maine Women Centennial Leadership Fund. Every gift brings us closer to our goal and helps ensure the spirit of All Maine Women continues to thrive for generations to come.

Words From Our Members

Alice Fonseca Haines Class of 1948 AMW

Alice felt very special when she was welcomed into the All Maine Women in the late spring of 1947. She enjoyed representing the University of Maine at numerous events and being recognized as a leader of the Class of 1948.

Marsha Traub Class of 1975 AMW

“I remember being surprised when they came into my dorm room early in the morning to tell me I had been selected. What an honor. Although I was only at the university for one semester as an AMW, it was something I cherished and was proud to be a member of the organization. I have continued to support the organization over the years having established a fund to support the activities of the AMW and also provide a scholarship.”

Jean Dolloff Kreizinger Class of 1953 AMW

Jean said being tapped as an All Maine Women was prestigious, and this recongition meant more to her than any award. Another fond memory Jean has of her time at the University of Maine is being editor of the Prism during her junior year.

On April 25, 1925, 80 trailblazing women gathered in Balentine Hall to lay the foundation for what would become the All Maine Women Honor Society. Led by Ava Chadbourne and inspired by Dean Caroline Colvin, the first honorary All Maine Woman and a true pioneer in academia, they set a precedent for excellence that has stood the test of time.

All Maine Women is the highest all-inclusive honor society to which a University of Maine woman can belong and members are considered the consummate role model for UMaine women. Every year, rising seniors are chosen based on their distinguished leadership, scholarship, and service to the University and campus community. Members are pledged to uphold and promote the ideals, standards, and traditions of the University of Maine. Members can be distinguished by their special pins, sweaters, and small pine trees worn on their right cheeks.
