KleinhauseGrowing up in Israel, 5 miles from the Gaza strip, Tal, who is a Wildlife Ecology Major, already faced many challenges in her life. Coming to the United States, and particularly to the University of Maine to follow her passion for nature and science has been a dream come true for her. While at the university, Tal has already been accepted to three different internships and is actively involved on campus.

“As an independent, international student I’m away from my home and my family, and have to take care of myself. Thanks to the Levitan scholarship, I can afford to stay in college and pursue my dream of achieving higher education in the U.S. as a scientist.”

Tal received the Nathan Levitan Scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. The Levitan Scholarship was established at the University of Maine Foundation in 1959 by Dr. Leon B. Levitan, Class of 1938, in memory of his father, Nathan Levitan.
